3.1 Phillip Lim NYFW F/W19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Designer Phillip Lim’s recent penchant for the Marie Kondo decluttering fad, which resulted in a pared-back sleek offering with a focus on classic tailoring and a fresh focus on sustainability.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Scarlett Johansson on a date night with SNL’s Colin Jost at the handsomely swanky Polo Bar on the Upper East Side.
WEAR IT TO: Flit around Soho interviewing interior designers for the chance to outfit your new $3.9 million studio apartment in Hudson Yards.
FIRST READ: Sturdy wool coats and sportif puffer jackets in muted tones added a corporate feel to the lineup, while fuzzy vests and jackets and drawstring detailed stayed true to the brand’s gritty urban aesthetic.
BEST LOOK: A camel off-the-shoulder fitted top, styled with black cigarette-style pants with asymmetrical detailing, teamed with leather Chelsea boots, a single statement earring and matching clutch.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Earthy-toned leather booties with ruching at the ankle, contrasting stitching on cargo-style pants and skirts, and deconstructed mixed-material bombers.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Ashley Graham, Karrueche Tran and Delilah Belle Hamlin, Prabal Gurung, Jason Wu, Eva Chen.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I tried to Marie Kondo my apartment and basically just ended up throwing out all of my husband’s socks and jocks.”
COLOR WHEEL: Brown, camel, slate gray, black, khaki.
