Marchesa S/S 2018 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Perennial world traveler Aimée Crocker and her exploration across Japan and the Far East. Designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig paid homage to American heiress by referencing the 1920’s and her collection of pearls, Buddhas and snakes – but not her multitude of husbands and adopted children.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Olivia Wilde playing princess on the red carpet at the Golden Globe’s after divorcing her real-life Italian prince Tao Raspoli and his more than 1,000-year old castle.
WEAR IT TO: Your fellow Vogue colleague and beauty director’s luxe wedding on the grounds of Tuscany’s Castello di Casole, followed by cocktails on the terrace to the voice of Italian crooner Matteo Brancaleoni.
FIRST READ: Tuxedo suits with oversized bows and crystal embellishments transpired into a series of signature ball gowns with tulle layering and romantic wisteria vines, while all-over floral detailing, tassels and ostrich-feather accents added a dramatic feel to the couture lineup.
BEST LOOK: A floaty ivory gown featuring a U-shaped neckline and built-in pearl necklaces, with black bow, crystal and organza corsage embellishments.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Organza cherry blossoms sewn onto dresses and in models’ hair marched in step with the show’s Japanese influence, while layered pearl looks had a distinct 20’s Great Gatsby flapper vibe.
