Alice + Olivia S/S 2018 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Designer Stacey Bendet’s reimagined version of the historic now-closed Chelsea Hotel and the excess of cultural icons that resided there throughout the eras. Bendet gave the phrase, “if these walls could talk” a literal meaning by creating an interactive set that played out like a tropical take on an upscale New York apartment. Featured throughout were artworks as part of a collaboration with emerging talent – Lola Schnabel, Lucy Sparrow, Susie Lopez, Jemima Kirke, Francesca DiMattio, and Angelica Hicks – while attendees were treated to Scout Willis crooning an acoustic set in the music room.
POP-CULTURE NOD: AnnaSophia Robb making like SJP and scouring the Chelsea Flower Market for posies to decorate her new W 4th terrace before checking out a live art installation at Pace Gallery.
WEAR IT TO: The closing dinner as lead banker on Tropicana Entertainment’s acquisition of The Chelsea Hotel in Atlantic City. Or a walking tour of Andy Warhol’s favorite watering holes in New York City.
FIRST READ: Relaxed suiting in sunshine yellow and bright fuchsia, a ruffled chiffon shirt with a pussycat bow, and a python-print pencil skirt gave off a modern, ladylike vibe, while a dramatic rainbow skirt with tasseled detailing, worn with a sequin bomber, added a dose of the brand’s trademark spunk to the eclectic mix.
BEST LOOK: A palm-tree print cropped top, worn with matching high-waisted wide-leg pants and a matching floaty cape, styled with raffia slides and dark shades with flower accents.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Tees advocating for more sparkles in the world, white over-the-knee open-toe boots covered in a floral print, and bodega-inspired clutches – think a bag of Dots or Sugar Babies candy.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Scout Willis, Demi Moore, Tallulah Willis, Paris Hilton, Nicky Hilton, Victoria Justice, India de Beaufort, Eva Gutowski, Skai Jackson, Landry Bender.
