Coach S/S 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Graffiti artist Keith Haring and his lasting stamp on New York’s downtown scene in the 80’s. Designer Stuart Vevers paved the runway with glitter and recreated a Manhattan alleyway as a backdrop to the show – think a wall of apartment rooftops, an antique car and vintage streetlamps – which served as a nod to his other unofficial influence, the young starlets and future bombshells of the big screen in attendance at the show.Â
POP-CULTURE NOD: Gigi Hadid on a shoot at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara wine country, a stone’s throw from Oprah Winfrey’s summer house. Â
WEAR IT TO: Recite your latest personal essay at the Moth StorySLAM at the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe on the topic of epic showdowns and tugs-of-war.Â
FIRST READ: Lacy sheer dresses and silk slips gave off a feminine, 30’s flirty vibe, while Western suede and leather jackets walked in step with the brand’s shift towards a more modern, rock aesthetic.Â
BEST LOOK:Â A glittery midi dress with an ivory lace trim, teamed with metallic cowboy boots and a silver box clutch.Â
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Artist Haring’s signature squiggle printed on clutches and black ankle boots. A series of sequin looks and a suite of satin bombers featuring kitschy logos added a youthful edge to the mix.Â
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Emma Roberts, Petra Collins, Anna Collins, Anna Wintour, Selena Gomez, Vic Mensa, Elaine Welteroth, Hikari Mori, Kiersey Clemons, Alexe Belle, Isis Valentino, James Franco.Â
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Who do you think is ahead in the acquisition arm’s race between Coach and Kate Spade?”
COLOR WHEEL:Â Camel, forest green, silver, purple, apricot, dusty pink, ivory, black, maroon, navy.
