Carolina Herrera S/S 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The desire to create a colorful riot in celebration of youthful femininity while remaining true to the brand’s signature ladylike aesthetic.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Color protector Rainbow Brite on the red carpet next to Anna Wintour as co-chair of the Disney-themed Met Gala.
WEAR IT TO: The red carpet premier of Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes ballet at the New York City Center, followed by handcrafted cocktails overlooking Manhattan at 30 Rock’s Rainbow Room.
FIRST READ: 80’s-style prom dresses, off-the-shoulder cocktail gowns, polka-dot frocks and relaxed suiting filled out the designer’s eclectic collection, which toed the line between looks suited to young Hollywood on an international press junket and ensembles more suited to an Upper West Side soiree.
BEST LOOK: An off-the-shoulder floor-length gown with a built-in black bandeau, featuring an apricot belt and large yellow polka dots. Another standout was a ballerina-inspired bandeau dress with a white bodice and dusty pink and mustard layered tulle skirt.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Color-blocked shoes as part of a collaboration with Manolo Blahnik
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Peyton List, Lily Aldridge, Michelle Monaghan, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Anna Wintour, Mario Testino, Jody Arnhold, Paul Arnhold, Olga Barrientos, Fe Fendi.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I love the paint splatters and oversized polka dots – it reminds me of Jackson Pollock reworked the closet of Cruella de Vil.”
COLOR WHEEL: Azure, red, yellow, mustard, dusty pink, green, black, silver, tangerine, orange, lilac, purple, nude, white, emerald, seafoam green.
