Rochambeau S/S 2018 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The concept of de-evolution – that the world is falling apart into a post-modern dystopia. Designers Laurence Chandler and Joshua Cooper collaborated with visual artist and founding member of band DEVO, Mark Mothersbaugh. Drawing influence from the aluminum sculptures of Los Angeles-based Aaron Curry, the collection featured swirls, geometric motifs, bubbles and intergalactic prints on an array of looks in a nod to the experimental artist.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Brad Pitt tricking his co-star in World War Z 2 into spending an afternoon inside his backyard sculpture studio – his hobby of choice as part of a 12-step therapy program post-split with Angelina Jolie.
WEAR IT TO: Checkout the star-filled night sky at the monthly public star party at the Griffith Observatory, before catching a live punk-rock show at the Cha Cha Lounge in Silver Lake in L.A.
FIRST READ: Structured trench coats with colorful accents – worn with matching bucket hats – printed hoodies, denim jackets and cropped sweaters gave the collection a 90’s, athletic street-style vibe, while a series of coats, windbreakers and shirts featuring grey bubble-style prints played to the artist-inspired theme.
BEST LOOK: A cropped apricot hoodie and matching sweatpants featuring graphic vortex-style print, teamed with white high-tops.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Curry’s sculptures served as visual cue cards about the show’s theme, installed alongside the show. A series of looks covered in the same tally pattern as the backdrop to the runway. Nike Air Force 1 sneakers with snap-on toe protectors in pastel shades.
