Sleeping With the Cool Kids – SIXTY LES

Imagine the sort of hangout trust fund hipsters flock to for a staycation – mid-week, of course, because they are sans job – and you will have an acute sense of everything that is Sixty LES.

Upon a recent visit over the summer, the poolside banter between two twenty-something Prada-clad gents revolved around ‘conceptual’ screenplay ideas and how they could hire a ghostwriter to pen their tales before passing the script over to their friend-of-a-friend Emma Roberts.

Sixty LES stands alone as a haute Lower East Side boutique hotel, with the covetable New York City accessory of an outdoor lap pool. Note: swimming optional.

Close to downtown neighborhoods the East Village, Nolita and Soho and an array of bar and restaurants, the hotel provides a glamorous portal into the city’s trendsetter scene, with the fash pack descending on the luxurious gem during NYFW.

With floor-to-ceiling windows and sleek black mirrored walls, the luxurious rooms are spacious with a distinct industrial feel. Most rooms are equipped with a roomy balcony which offers 180-degree views of the Manhattan skyline.

While sleep is not front and center in the minds of most folk hanging in the LES, if you do indeed choose to rest your head it will be on custom-made 400-thread count SFERRA linen sheets on a bed featuring an illuminated light box headboard by Lee Friedlander.

The bathrooms offer an urban chic vibe through slate showers complete with rain showerheads and frosted glass.

Above Allen, a guest-and members-only club, offers spectacular views of uptown and downtown Manhattan – one of the few places that provides unobstructed views of both the Freedom Tower and the Empire State Building.

Another upside to the boutique gem’s unique neighborhood feel is the frequent chance of an upgrade upon arrival.
