Christian Cowan F/W 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: “Forgotten fun” – the desire to create a colorful riot in celebration of youthful femininity while remaining true to the brand’s signature ladylike aesthetic.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Michael Alig and his infamous Club Kids – part drag, part clown, part infantilism.
WEAR IT TO: The Dirty Circus Variety Show at the House of Yes in Williamsburg.
FIRST READ: 90’s-style party dresses, off-the-shoulder cocktail gowns, oversized faux furs and relaxed sweats filled out the designer’s eclectic collection, which played out like the wardrobe of the latest daring Hollywood starlet on an international press junket.
BEST LOOK: A red fur coat dress, worn with matching tights, strappy silver sandals and an oversized neon heart broach. Another standout was an asymmetrical scarlet one-shouldered sequin dress, paired with a birthday-style hat.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Sequinned gloves, a latex neon green trench, and a nod to the iconic “I Heart New York” kitsch sweater.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I love the neon sign – it’s like if McDonald’s and Studio 54 were to do a collaboration.”
COLOR WHEEL: Red, gold, silver, green, yellow, green, black, nude, white.
