Jonathan Cohen NYFW S/S19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The concept of storytelling through the art of songwriting – namely the vocal chords of Lauryn Hill, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Kate Bush. Titled, “Love Me/ Love Me Not”, designer Cohen’s presentation featured floral creations from Green Haus NYC in violin cases, keeping in check with the show’s musical theme.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Anna Kendrick promoting her latest flick on The Tonight with Jimmy Fallon, before switching her Brian Atwood pumps for a pair of Golden Goose and following the host to late-night drinks at Nirvana in the East Village.
WEAR IT TO: A summer rooftop wedding at the William Vale Hotel, followed by a garden after party at your green-thumb friend’s backyard in Bushwick.
FIRST READ: Cohen’s signature column dresses in floral silks and chiffons – one featured poppy appliques on a sunshine-yellow backdrop – while structured A-line jacquard cocktail dresses and a mid-length coat with oversized sleeves added a polished uptown vibe to the mix.
BEST LOOK: A paneled dress in clashing red, white and black prints, featuring multiple knots and cheeky cutaway detailing at the front, easily dressed up or down with a pair of pumps or grungy Dr. Martens.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Wool tweed fedoras, lace-up snakeskin pointed boots, silk neck-ties in clashing prints.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I think I’ve been speed-dating at this venue this year but I was drunk at the time.”
COLOR WHEEL: Marigold, red, black, navy, brown, camel, powder pink, maroon, white, mustard.
