Kate Spade NYFW S/S19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The desire to remain faithful to the brand’s late founder while putting her own stamp on the collection, Kate Spade’s new creative director, Nicola Glass, delivered a debut runway collection that ticked-off all cornerstones of the label’s core aesthetic.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Freida Pinto strolling through the Place des Lices with her girl squad on a sunny day in Saint Tropez.
WEAR IT TO: Laze on a sun lounge opposite the Faraglioni at the La Fontelina Beach Club in Capri over the July 4th weekend, before sipping on an Aperol Spritz and taking a dip in the Mediterranean Sea.
FIRST READ: In past seasons, several of Kate Spade’s bags and scarves have featured the phrase, “She is quick and curious and playful and strong,” which fittingly can be used to define Glass’ maiden collection for the brand. From polka dot sundresses and midi frocks with floral and graphic prints, to a series of white shifts, the lineup played out like an ode to Spade’s uplifting and energetic ethos – think femininity and class at its finest.
BEST LOOK: A v-neck floaty a-line dress with ruffle detail, styled with yellow strappy platforms.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Oversized sunglasses and pastel printed headscarves gave the show a boat-ready vibe, while cutout bucket bags and matching fabric shoppers kept in check with the brand’s signature wares.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Elizabeth Olsen, Kate Bosworth, Priyanka Chopra, Gillian Jacobs, Kate Bosworth, Nina Agdahl, Nina Garcia.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Do you think Glass will continue on with the covetable kitsch bags?”
COLOR WHEEL: Sunshine yellow, white, pink, navy, black, green, blue, lavender, seafoam, taupe.
