Claudia Li NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The driving motivation of creating a more culturally diverse offering, the New Zealand-born designer casted all Asian models in her NYFW runway debut. Also key were images from Li’s childhood, specially fond memories of her mother.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Agyness Deyn flexing her eclectic fashion chops on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premier of her latest film.
WEAR IT TO: An afternoon strolling through the Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival at Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
FIRST READ: Li delivered a mix of simplistic separates, such as a sheer drawstring jacket and duster coats, while oversized handmaid floral applique on menswear blazers and panel dresses with lace detail added delicate femininity to the lineup, which would translate easily from the boardroom to happy hour. A streetstyle stars dream, Li offered a blend of gritty, edgy pieces and polished, tailored looks.
BEST LOOK: A navy and dark green lurex mini dress, cinched at the waist with a rope belt, featuring an sheer organza layer and an oversized yellow flower broach.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: 3D blooms and silk patches, pouches attached to the front of shift dresses and wraps, and clutches with flyaway rope accents.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Is that Awkwafina in the front row? I loved her in Crazy Rich Asians.”
COLOR WHEEL: Butter, sage, seafoam green, yellow, purple, black, slate, black, magenta, teal, powder blue.
