3.1 Phillip Lim NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: A subtle nod to Morocco and remnants of designer Phillip Lim’s ode to the Jamaican beach culture that inspired his resort collection. Guests huddled under clear umbrellas on the rooftop of a school in the Lower East Side amid the downpour for the brand’s latest collection, which featured minimalist silhouettes with a futuristic vibe.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Karlie Kloss riding an ATV while on vacation with finace Joshua Kushner, Princess Beatrice and Ellie Goulding in the Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan.
WEAR IT TO: A last-minute assignment to jet to Sydney to cover Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week, followed by a quick stopover in L.A. to hunt for the latest crop of emerging designers.
FIRST READ: Maxi dresses, fringed coats and jackets with fur collars had a seasonless feel, while athletic bralettes, bodycon frocks and a splattering of 70’s floral prints added a youthful edge to the mix.
BEST LOOK: A pair of white, relaxed-fit pants, teamed with a camel tank, cream scarf with embroidered detail, black crossbody bag with fringed accents, white-framed glasses and a matching bucket hat.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Pom-pom-style slits on long skirts, wristlet bags, trailing color-blocked accents on minidresses, Grecian sandals, worn throughout, and silver satchels.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Sophia Richie, Liya Kebede, Khalid, Kelly Rowland, Elaine Weltroth, Desiree Raquel Manuel, Jerry Lorenzo,
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Do you think we can take the umbrellas with us to the next show?”
COLOR WHEEL: Cream, brown, white, rust, black, slate, silver, mustard, orange, yellow, olive.
