Coach NYFW S/S19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Creative director Stuart Vevers’ recent trip to Santa Fe in New Mexico, namely his visit to Ghost Ranch, a 21,000-acre retreat and education center and the home of the late Georgia O’Keeffe, famous for her paintings of oversized flowers and the surrounding landscape.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Suki Waterhouse uncovering a 2,500-year-old altar from the Mayan Snake Kingdon while on an archeological dig in La Corona, Guatemala, as part of a cover shoot for Vogue.
WEAR IT TO: Embrace the eclectic theatrics at Burning Man in Black Rock Desert, where you stumble across oddities such as a portable toilet that opens to reveal a man standing behind a wooden bar with a full shelf of liquor.
FIRST READ: Vevers continued to make strides away from the long-time American stalwart’s signature cookie-cutter hallmarks with hist latest edgy collection, which featured suede coats and jackets trimmed with fringe, sheer frilly party frocks, and silk slips with lace accents. Also key were leather jackets in a variety of cuts, Victorian-inspired Gothic gowns, and Disney motifs on hoodies and knits – think Bambi and Pinocchio references reworked to create a gritty, urban feel.
BEST LOOK: A camel layered ruffle dress covered in a faded floral print, worn under a sage knit with silver lurex trim and featuring a dragon pirate print, styled with fringed Western desert booties and a satchel with fringing.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Kitschy prints on an otherwise earthy color palette, suede backpacks and rucksacks with patchwork detail, chunky knits fashioned from oversized yarn, and mini leather duffel bags in pastel tones.
