Michael Kors NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The designer’s desire to close NYFW on a light and cheery note. Kors paid an overt homage to the beach lifestyle, sure to be a hit among the brand’s sporty devotees.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Sophia Vergara soaking up the sun after a stint in Bora Bora at the French Polynesian island of Taha’a.
WEAR IT TO: Don a lei and learn the hula at the Diamond Head Farm Fresh Luau in Oahu’s Waikiki Aquarium.
FIRST READ: Floral frocks, shirts and skirts in fruit salad hues, jacquard suiting, and 90’s-inspired chunky knits and hoodies featuring a surfer print, in addition to flirty swimwear and a handful of nighttime looks – think ruffled black skirts and bias-cut dresses with strategic cutouts.
BEST LOOK: A yellow and green shirt splattered in a deconstructed floral print, styled with an orange and pink midi skirt, lace-up stacked sandals, a floppy sunhat and a customized shopper beach bag.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: The art installation featured throughout Pier 17 by Perth-born artist, Christina Zimpel, who Kors tapped to create imagery of islands and coastlines based on memories of summer vacations. Also key were floppy hats and turbans, bags covered in beach scenes and motifs, oversized shades, printed boots, and crystalized starfish pendant jewelry.
