9/11 Memorial & Museum – The Lowdown

The 9/11 Memorial Plaza serves as a sobering tribute to the devastating terror attacks of Feb.26, 1993, and Sep.11, 2001, staged over an eight-acre park located within steps of the original Twin Towers. Surrounded by almost 400 white oak trees, the twin pools feature the names of victims of the attacks inscribed on bronze panels edging the marble pools, which are each nearly an acre in size and mark the largest man-made waterfalls in North America.

Book ahead and visit the National 9/11 Memorial Museum, which provides a reverent examination of the implications of the tragedy via an array of multimedia exhibits, archives and monumental artifacts. The landmark balances paying homage to the almost 3,000 victims while also lauding those who took path in the massive recovery effort and the long and arduous process of helping the city heal. Be sure to checkout French photographer and video director Stephane Sednaoui’s exhibition of more than 500 pictures captured in the days following Sep.11 after witnessing the attack from the roof of his building on Great Jones Street in NoHo.
