INSPIRED BY: The Ainu – the indigenous people in Hokkaido – and the tribe’s affinity with nature, specifically the colorful clothing made from local materials, from bark to animal hide and salmon-skin boots.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Nicole Richie enjoying supper under the stars after a day of camel riding on a luxury desert safari in Dubai.
WEAR IT TO: The opening night of the New York City Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty at the Lincoln Center, followed by drinks at The Bowery Hotel.
FIRST READ: Maeda sharpened her focus on artisanship and subtle accents – such as lace and tulle detailing on dresses and silk shirts – while 80’s power dressing also shone through in the form of structured suits in jewel tones and Bedouin-style suede trench coats in rich earthy hues.
BEST LOOK: A lavender layered silk shirt dress with asymmetrical lace and tulle accents, teamed with gold and pearl necklaces, Maryjane flats and a leather bucket bag.
