Cushnie NYFW F/W19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Twenties’ French fashion trailblazer Paul Poiret and his signature free-flowing dresses and knack for relaxed tailoring. Designer Carly Cushnie also cited Ikebana and geometric arrangements as key behind her latest collection.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Lea Michele celebrating her elaborate bridal shower at Bagatelle in Meatpacking ahead of her wedding to her fashion entrepreneur fiancé, Zandy Reich.
WEAR IT TO: Catch a live acoustic set while knocking out a business meeting in a cozy alcove at the Gramercy Park Hotel’s weekly Rose Bar Sessions.
FIRST READ: Elegant eveningwear in sparkly fabrics and plush velvet in rich, jewel tones were tempered by chic suiting in pastel hues. Taking things to the red-carpet level were a range of dramatic cocktail gowns: think bias-cut slips and strapless figure-hugging frocks with column trains.
BEST LOOK: A midnight-blue velvet blazer with lavender floral detail and embroidery on the front, teamed with matching cigarette pants, a black clutch and diamante drop earrings.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Flirty cutouts on feminine day dresses, furry jackets adding a boho vibe to sequined 80’s-inspired jumpsuits, and leather separates capable of being dressed up or down with the addition of a coat and strappy heel.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Andi Matichak, Angela Sarafyan, Rainey Qualley, Debby Ryan, Kate Bock, Maria Hatzistefanis, Fern Mallis, Chloe Lukasiak.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I don’t even smoke, but all this velvet makes me want to sit by a fire and puff on a cigar with a full glass of whiskey.”
COLOR WHEEL: Black, powder pink, midnight, lavender, red, maroon, yellow, navy, rust, white.
