Khaite NYFW F/W19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The strength and audacity of women in America, namely the pivotal points in history where iconic trailblazers have redefined their place in society. Titled, “The New Frontier,” designer Catherine Holstein delivered an old-school fashion show experience to guests that trekked out to Brooklyn: think craft cocktails, a spectacular set, killer soundtrack and well-heeled attendees.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Lily Aldridge cradling her burgeoning baby bump while setting the festive table before Christmas at her home in Nashville, Tennessee.
WEAR IT TO: Sip an Old Fashioned at the Experimental Cocktail Club after a day of perusing art at the Lourve in Paris.
FIRST READ: Holstein made her fashion week debut with a string of the brand’s all-American staples: think Tibi-esque pleated dresses with tie detail, leather shorts, skirts and trousers, and ripped jeans with side panels. Suede suiting with fringe accents added a Western vibe to the mix, while silk shirts with balloon sleeves spoke to the lineup’s evening appeal.
BEST LOOK: A ballerina pink sheer party frock, featuring removable arm pieces in crimson velvet, cinched with a brown belt and styled with Mary Jane-style flats.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: The debut of luggage, inspired by the label’s traveling clientele, ranging from streamlined clutches to oversized shoppers and bucket bags. Also key were zebra-print boots, dramatic leather trenches belts with gold hardware.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Do you want to grab a cheeky cocktail at Dumbo House after this?”
COLOR WHEEL: Black, gold, emerald, forest green, white, red, blush, cream, mustard, taupe, sage, brown.
