Laurence & Chico NYFW F/W19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Design duo Laurence Li and Chico Wang’s recent trip to Thailand, namely the country’s eclectic culture and cuisine, which was evidenced via the bold use of color and intricate beading and embroidery.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Nicki Minaj slaying her haters in a fairy tale-influenced teaser clip for the song, Parallel To None, as she kicks off her world tour.
WEAR IT TO: Go down the rabbit hole and grab a luminous botanical cocktail at The Mad Hatters G&T Party in Brooklyn.
FIRST READ: Li and Wang served up an array of wearable separates: think menswear blazers in a pineapple print, deconstructed denim pieces in the form of ruffle skirts, crop tops and accents on heels. Classic trench coats and tweed suiting provided daywear options, while a string of frilly silk mille feuille gowns are sure to be a hit among the brand’s eclectic devotees.
BEST LOOK: A three-piece suit featuring a tropical leaf print and a contrasting lapel with bow detail, paired with matching platform shoes and an oversized flower hairpiece.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Fantastical headpieces and permed wigs in cotton-candy color hues, tulle ball skirts, ruffled accents on patterned heels, and ostrich feather midi dresses with denim bows.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Karen Koeningsberg, Ian Mellencamp, J. Alexander, Fern Mallis, Shannade Clermont, Shannon Clermont, Taylor Hing.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “This show always has the most fabulous guest outfits of the season.”
