Telfar NYFW F/W19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Playwright Jeremy O. Harris’ Off-Broadway, Slave Play. Titled, “Country,” designer Telfar Clemens cited the concept of race and freedom as key behind his politically-charged show, with O. Harris himself narrating a monologue on the collection’s theme to the packed crowd.
POP-CULTURE NOD: A former Lower East Side club kid completing a summer stint as a ranch hand at Ottley Farms in Oakley, Kansas.
WEAR IT TO: The Manhattan Freedom Art Walk across the streets of NYC as part of a mission to end child labor, slavery and trafficking.
FIRST READ: Grungy separates in earthy tones with a scruffy, laid-back vibe: think deconstructed corduroy blazers and jeans with the Telfar logo and Western front pockets, slouchy cardigans, and college-inspired track pants tucked into vintage-looking cowboy boots.
BEST LOOK: A padded zip-up leather bomber with a cotton fleece hood, paired with matching high-waisted pants and a khaki one-shoulder crop top.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Guests were treated to a mini rock concert in the iconic Irving Plaza, thanks to musicians Oyinda and Butch Dawson, Ho99o9 and Na-Kel Smith, with models crowd-surfing into the mosh pit for maximum rock-star impact.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I haven’t seen green hair since my Nirvana days!”
COLOR WHEEL: Black, white, khaki, mustard, brown, camel, yellow, gray, navy, maroon.
