Sies Marjan NYFW S/S20 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The need to innovate amid the squeeze in the seasonal production cycles, designer Sandy Lak delivered a series of monochromatic looks in jewel tones. As always, the designer focued on smart tailoring and the use of mixed mediums to cater to the fashionable New Yorker in search of statement pieces with a timeless lifespan.
POP-CULTURE NOD: An all-female Power Rangers reboot, set in the futuristic metropolis used in The Matrix.
WEAR IT TO: Brave the rain to attend an after-dark VIP party at the Tate Modern in London.
FIRST READ: Color blocking was key in this bold collection, which featured faux-leather trench coats, satin blazers and gowns, glossy-coated jersey dresses, and croc-effect patent leather skirts. Further plays with texture showed up in a pink lizard-effect faux leather matching suit set, while a cobalt blue cowl-neck dress with an asymmetrical hemline and denim column frock with a sweetheart neckline and bustier bodice – styled under a floaty trench – rounded out the lineup’s nighttime options.
BEST LOOK: An emerald silk one-shoulder gown featuring a front slit and knot accent with an asymmetrical hemline, styled with knee-high green crocodile-embossed leather boots. Also key was a yellow leather jacket, worn over a matching silk dress and boots.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Enough faux leather to appease even the most eco-conscious of the brand’s fans – attendee’s were lusting over the suite of croc-embossed knee-high boots with buckle straps embellished at the top with gold hardware and a squared toe. The snake-effect slides and embossed-lizard sandals in matching shades with the clothes are sure to be sellouts once the cult favorite’s latest range hits the stores.
