Tibi NYFW S/S20 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Designer Amy Smilovic’s mission to provide timeless investment piecces with modern detailing, which translates to instantly recognizable “Tibi” silhouettes capable of taking you from one season to the next with ease, thanks to Smilovic’s how-to Instagram Stories, which answers fan’s burning style conundrums on a daily basis.
POP-CULTURE NOD: German model and blogger Caroline Daur meeting a reporter at Sant Ambroeus in the West Village to discuss her new watch line, before heading to Milk Studios to direct a photo shoot of next season’s collection.
WEAR IT TO: Look classy at a fall jazz performance on the roof of Dumbo House with your laptop and updated business plan in tow.
FIRST READ: Tibi fans know they can expect updates on beloved classics with each season, and this time was no different. The show opened with a series of longline menswear blazers, worn open over nylon peach cargo pants and relaxed-fit patent leather pants, and graduated to a crisp cornflower trench coat, a jumpsuit with drawstrings at the ankle, and a black tropical wool blazer with sculpted sleeves, worn over billowy tailored bloomers, sure to be a favorite among fans. Evident was Smilovic’s knack for experimenting with silhouettes and plays on proportion, which allow her to add intriguing details to wardrobe staples. Think curved shoulders on menswear blazers, and eco-silk dresses with detachable capes.
BEST LOOK: A charcoal double-breasted sleeveless blazer, styled over a pair of mustard double-waisted sculpted baggy pants, and paired with stacked white shoes. Also key were a navy tie-dye pleated midi skirt and high-waisted sculpted pants, both teamed with cashmere pullovers with open-sleeve elbow cutouts.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Croc-embossed leather cross-body bags, satin top-handle clutches in sorbet hues, fuzzy ostrich slides, platform boots and sandals, and a white dress featuring mini craft knitting looms with fringing and a cape at the back.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I’m liking the theater trend of the shows this season. It presents the last-minute front row seat grab that makes PR folks cringe.”
COLOR WHEEL: Slate, sand, apricot, chartreuse, cream, black, navy, charcoal, brown, silver, white, blue, olive, mint, orange, moss, rust, maroon, pink, green.
