SHOW: The Blonds – S/S 2017
LOCATION: MADE at Milk Studios, 450 W. 15th St.
DATE: Sept.11
START TIME: 9PM + 30mins
TOP INSTA LOOK: Big hair, don’t care. Aside from the show’s infamously eccentrically-dressed front, second, third, fourth and fifth rows, the models’ peroxide blonde exploding curl wigs complemented the collection’s Marilyn Monroe-let-loose-on-the-moon vibe. Male models were decked out with silver laurel head wreaths, echoing the show’s Ancient Grecian feel.
BEHIND THE SCENES: More than 18 different nail art designs were painstakingly crafted to reflect the designers’ theme of Olympian goddesses emerging from a hot pool of clay and stone, using crystal embellishments and metallic detailing, adding to the production’s intergalactic vibe.
OFF PROBATION: The show’s opening trio of looks, which featured shimmering silver corsets styled over ripped tank tops and slashed-up skirts nude, camel and brown.
GOOD BEHAVIOUR BOND: A one-sleeve floor-grazing fitted jumpsuit covered in mirror pieces and crystal embroidery with a collared neckline, worn with a Jetsons-inspired driving glove – perfect for partying under the full moon of the infamous rave series by the same name on a secluded island in Thailand with 350 of your closest jetset friends.
INSPIRED BY: A Studio 54 disco ball made entirely of glitter exploding over the dance floor on cue with Armin van Buuren dropping his latest track, mixed with a throwback ‘90s electronic favorite as the crowd goes wild.
POP CULTURE-NOD: Charlie’s Angels on assignment as femme fatale moles at James Bond’s latest adversary’s Frank Gehry-designed luxury space station, where they mistake acid tabs for sugar-free Altoids and subsequently enter a glittery alternate reality where giant silver unicorn horses run, dance and disco themselves wild and free.
WEAR IT TO: Your first NYU hazing party as a mature age-student studying experimental arts while trying to recreate an experienced take on the 2001: A Space Odyssey film for your first toga party come spring.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “What are you wearing to and how heavily are we drinking before the after party at Tao Downtown?”
SPOTTED: Kelly Osborne, Christina Milian, Dascha Polanco, Vicky Jeudy, Amanda Lepore, Susanne Bartsch, Iman Shumpert, Nigel Barker, Ireland Baldwin, Karruchee.
COLOR WHEEL: Silver, mirrored accents, sequins, tan, camel, brown, platinum, gold.
BEATS: “Can You Feel It?” by Mr. Fingers.
THE DOCKET: Massive wind machines upped the ante as models approached the end of the runway to give photographers a signature trademark cheeky Blonds’ flick, which added another layer to an already electrically explosive flurry of glitter on what is sure to be on the wish list for the show’s fashion-forward attendees, whose collective style bible is to not have one. Renown for being ‘the’ show to catch during New York Fashion Week, designers’ David and Phillipe Blond delivered a highly-charged fantastical burlesque offering as rebelliously entertaining and blinged-out as their 10th anniversary collection deserved.
