Creatures of Comfort S/S 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: An urban update on the idyllic Provençal lifestyle, designer Jade Lai cited the South of France and its local farmers and female cyclists as key influences behind her suite of airy summer dresses and peasant blouses. Think Cinderella on a gap year drinking her way through Bordeaux.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Sienna Miller with her hair in milk-maid braids on the set of a Vogue photoshoot in the English countryside as part of a rebrand after a brief rocky rekindling with Jude Law.
WEAR IT TO:Â An organic cooking class at Soho Farmhouse before having your aura cleansed at the property’s day spa by reiki guru.
FIRST READ:Â Breathable, faded fabrics, a soft palette and ladylike ruffles elevated the collection from agriculture-worker status to a wardrobe better suited for boarding the deck of a private yacht in the French Riviera.
BEST LOOK:Â A midi-length white sundress with shoulder ruffle detailing, styled with a lilac T-shirt fastened around the waist, reinforced with a printed-peplum apron belt.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS:Â Reimagined aprons as bolt-on accessories, trucker hats and 70’s-style millinery pieces added a high-end feel to the otherwise comfortable, relaxed looks.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Annie Georgia Greenberg, Jennifer Graves, Leandra Medine.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE:Â “I could see myself in those frilly mules over mimosas at the Waverly Inn.”
COLOR WHEEL:Â Peach, lemon, beige, navy, lilac, lime, orange, grey.
