Adam Lippes NYFW S/S20 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The idea of clothing as a source of joy and exploration, designer Adam Lippes used his new office digs to showcase his latest collection, which centered around a mix of ladylike separates with an English rose-style slant, slouchy knitwear and cocktail numbers for after-dark soirees.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Kerry Washington grabbing drinks with Nicole Kidman between takes while shooting Netflix’s adaptation of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical The Prom.
WEAR IT TO: Spend a rainy afternoon with your nose in a book at the New York Public Library’s Rose Reading Room, before making a quick change and rubbing shoulders with Manhattan’s elite at the venue’s annual fall benefit gala.
FIRST READ: It’s all about the detail. From lace sleeves adorning lilac wool sweaters, to striking silk skirts with ruffle accents, Lippes focused on elevating wardrobe essentials to standalone statements. Adding a youthful vibe to the mix were sequined side-zip culottes, printed chiffon flounce tops, smocked waist printed chiffon dresses, and scoop-neck boucle flared midi dresses.
BEST LOOK: A lime off-the-shoulder silk faille dress with an asymmetrical hemline, styled with a printed bucket hat and printed pumps. Another favorite was a shirred-back long-sleeve corded lace dress, teamed with knee-high cowboy boots with tassel detail.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Velvet booties with drawstring ankle detail and leather flats with ballet ties as part of a collaboration with Sergio Rossi, bucket hats with polka dot prints and botanical artwork by ceramist Costanza Paravicini – also seen in red on a strapless column gown.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Did you know the New York Times used to be in this building?”
COLOR WHEEL: Red, lilac, gray, black, cream, purple, taupe, apricot, Kelly green, blue, white, yellow, marigold, maroon, lime.
