Adeam NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The nightclub aesthetic and Japan’s kawaii or “culture of cute.”
POP-CULTURE NOD: The combined wardrobe of good-girl Selma Blair and bad-girl Sarah Michelle Geller’s characters in Cruel Intentions.
WEAR IT TO: Hustle past the notoriously difficult doorman at Paul’s Cocktail Lounge next to the Tribeca Grand Hotel while flexing your borrowed back story at the Gucci buying intern next to you in line.
FIRST READ: Designer Hanako Maeda walked out a collection featured Victorian-influenced gowns with a prep-school cotillion vibe, while plaid vests and suiting had a grungy, 90’s feel. Adding another layer were Matrix-inspired power trooper PVC trenches in orange and black.
BEST LOOK: A plaid menswear waistcoat worn over a ruched white smock and black tulle skirt, styled with strappy heels with chain-link detail and pearl jewelry.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: PVC corsets on off-the-shoulder silk frocks, hummingbird embroidery on boatneck dresses, and oversized bow detail on jackets and tops.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I haven’t seen The Tunnel referenced since Sex & the City, Series Three.”
COLOR WHEEL: Navy, taupe, yellow, brown, camel, black, orange, apricot, blue.
