INSPIRED BY: A celebration of the Kyoto-born designer clocking up 25 years in the fashion retail industry. Creative trailblazer Akira Isogawa worked with vintage prints from the 1980s to craft a collection that tipped its hat to the idea of a shipwrecked, well-heeled jetsetter, all dressed up with nowhere to go but the salty shores of her impromptu island home to set off an SOS flare.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Marc Jacobs muse Chloë Sevigny reflecting on her former status as the “coolest girl in the world” – coined by literary Brat Pack novelist Jay McInerney in 1994 – over deconstructed Old Fashioneds at Soho House in L.A.
WEAR IT TO: Rub shoulders with the bohemian one-percenters on the maiden weekend of Coachella (flower crown optional).
FIRST READ: Isogawa delivered a stark departure from his storied lineup of minimalist separates, featuring the brand’s signature structured elements, instead focusing on looks sporting layered silk and tulle, with dainty sequined embroidery and Hawaiian floral motifs replacing emblems of the designer’s Japanese roots. Think the wardrobe of a former candy raver at an upscale resort in St. Tropez.
BEST LOOK: A black-and-teal layered silk party frock, featuring printed straps with the phrase “Vicious Beauty,” teamed with a grunge-inspired choker and black combat boots.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Silver disco-esque concertina midi skirts and flower-power lace-up Dr. Marten boots combined to give the show a Woodstock festival vibe, while ‘90s-inspired geometric print shirts and jackets added a relaxed, sportif feel to the mix.
