Alexander Wang’s spring 2015 collection played out like the sort of wardrobe you’d expect a style-handicapped corporate lawyer to splash her cash on while updating her wardrobe for next season.
The designer offered up a series of safe, minimalist looks in his signature black, perfect for cocktails with clients when you want to park the pantsuit for the day after filing a gruesome brief.
Wang delivered a series of long, streamlined blazers, one which was narrowed in and cinched at the waist with a belt, while the closing models were dress in preppy tennis-inspired white miniskirts and tops with Kelly green collars.
Sporty references were peppered throughout – engineered knitted scuba dresses were featured in electric blue, orange and yellow – while sneaker heads everywhere surely had their laces in a twist over the show’s athletic shoe leitmotif.
Surprisingly, trainers did not make an appearance during the show but for Wang’s curtain call moment. Instead, the designer opted for an array of strappy sandals and colorful round-toe wedges.
A string of bright, flirty mini dresses crafted from tiny pleats and worn over second-skin black turtlenecks toned down the collection’s corporate vibe, while a series of looks pairing high-waisted trousers with sexy bralets and halter tops emitted Wang’s urban New York street style edge.
One look that might have you reluctant to approach the bench was a cheeky fishnet, flesh-baring top, worn under a black jacket and matched with black drainpipe pants.
A standout look was a long sleeve, floor-length gown in white, black and royal blue, also offered up in plain black and white.
As always, Wang’s latest lineup was hip, cool, polished and razor sharp – sure to garner attention ahead of the launch of his collaboration with H&M, set to stores in November.
One thing’s for sure – female lawyers everywhere will be flexing their Amex cards to add another few $400 plain black tees to their wardrobes in an attempt to sharpen their fashion chops come spring.
