Anna Sui NYFW S/S20 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Italian stage and costume designer and fashion illustrator, Lila de Nobili, known for her romantic settings on the European theater and operatic stages in the ‘50s and ‘60s.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Kaia Gerber roaming the grounds of Coachella with her entourage in tow, before flying via private jet to a gig at Soho House in L.A.
WEAR IT TO: Celebrate the onset of the warmer months at the Richmond Society Summer Garden Party by the River Themes in London.
FIRST READ: Sui shrugged off the bright, psychedelic feel of her fall offering in favor of a softer, ethereal aesthetic. Think floaty chiffon gowns in floral prints, ladylike mini dresses with billowy sleeves, and vintage-inspired coats and jackets in clashing prints. The show’s Victorian vibe was given a modern update via relaxed, bohemian silhouettes and festival-style accessories.
BEST LOOK: A light blue knit hoody, worn under a sleeveless waistcoat and teamed with sequined pants in a shimmering mermaid effect. Also key was a strappy sundress in purple gingham with a sheer paisley print midsection, given a ‘70s vibe via cloud-shaped shades.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Stacked platforms worn with socks, lace-up sneakers with neon laces, candy-colored clutches that resembled dainty jewelry boxes, bucket hats, and sorbet-hued sunglasses.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Karen Elson, James Conran, Zhavia Ward, Melanie Liburd, Coco Rocha, Ashley Longshore, Noor Tagouri. Jena Rose, Katie Sands, Samantha Crompton, Eric Rutherford.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I love this collection – it’s very Zimmermann-meets-Missoni.”
COLOR WHEEL: Rose, pink, orange, red, camel, olive, seafoam, aqua, blue, lavender, mustard, purple, fuchsia, white, black, yellow, chartreuse.
