Area NYFW S/S19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Barazoku Magazine – Japan’s first commercial gay magazine, which begun publication in 1971.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Lene Nystrøm as a candy-colored Barbie in a remake of Aqua’s 1997 hit single, Barbie Girl. Think Paris Hilton behind the decks on a balmy night at Ibiza’s Amnesia.
WEAR IT TO: Indulge in the debauchery and cabaret fanfare at the one-year anniversary celebration of quirky performance saloon Club Cumming in the East Village.
FIRST READ: Design team Piotrek Panszczyk and Beckett Fogg served up an array of Studio 54-ready club kid getups in jewel tones. Among the mix were silver leather bralets worn with matching mini skirts, t-shirt dresses with tassel detail, sheer kaftans and blouses, and The Matrix-inspired Neo trench coats. Catering to those seeking more glitz in their wardrobe was a lurex mini with a cheeky front cutout in pink and blue, worn over bike pants and matching turbans.
BEST LOOK: An oversized blazer dress in Kelly green, styled with white over-the-knee sock boots, a 90’s crystal choker and a silver clutch. Also key was a green strapless dress with fringed access and a floor-length train, worn over bike pants and with beaded black sandals.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: The pair debuted their handbag collection, which featured glittery top-handle clutches and PVC pool float-inspired bags, turbans of Pharrell Williams’ hat proportions.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “This collection reminds me of what a space air hostess uniform on the Mars – Earth route.”
COLOR WHEEL: Green, magenta, blue, aqua, orange, black, brown, red, rust, yellow.
