Area NYFW S/S20 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The brand’s core values: diversity, equality and inclusivity. Designers Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk highlighted their knack for fusing streetwear elements with couture, with a dose of clubwear glam and ‘90s grunge thrown in for good measure.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Rihanna swapping out her Giambattista Valli gown for an Area red-carpet number for the 2020 Grammy Awards.
WEAR IT TO: The Area 69-themed Halloween party at The Box nightclub in the Lower East Side.
FIRST READ: Fogg and Panszczyk expanded on their signature chain-link dresses via menswear suiting and bodysuits featuring gold jewelry detail with the brand’s name in multiple languages. The concept of jewelry as clothing stood out in a look featuring strategic floral embellishments on top, paired with a metallic gold leather skirt. Things took a theatrical turn with metal cage dresses: think the sort of look Lady Gaga might sport to turn heads when performing on SNL.
BEST LOOK: A strapless apricot cocktail gown with arm panels and strategic cutouts, styled with gold flower drop earrings.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Crystal embellishment on model’s faces, miniature bird cages featured as detail on dresses and suits, trailing fringing on blazers, and the final look, which was made from rope-style tubing with a Medusa-like effect.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Let’s be honest – we all have that one friend who could rock this look till 4AM on a Tuesday night.”
COLOR WHEEL: White, gold, black, olive, yellow, silver, mint, khaki, blue, lilac, apricot.
