Baes & Bikinis NYFWM S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The Greek Islands, the Bahamas, Hawaii and Malibu, 19-year old designer Stephanie Princi paid homage to the tropical lifestyle via the creation of a swag of looks combing low-cut bikinis with the infamous South Beach fit.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Sassy 90’s London girl group All Saints performing a reunion Western-themed show at the Hard Rock Hotel in Ibiza. Think the sort of look a pre-Harry Meghan Markle might have donned on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
WEAR IT TO: A day of tanning under the heat of the 100-degree blistering sun on the sandy beaches of Sydney’s Bondi, utilizing the anonymity of an oversized fedora to mask your ogling of the local lifeguards.
FIRST READ: Delicate knits, crochet galore and flirty coverups filled-out the fashion-focused collection, which ranged from high-waisted Taylor Swift-influenced separates to skimpy side-tie bottoms with an eye to intricate detailing.
BEST LOOK: A sequined blue jumpsuit with a strappy halter neckline, worn over a black bandeau top and styled with pointy heels, beaded jewelry and a charcoal fedora hat.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Lace and satin skirts with trailing ruffles, tied with an oversized bow sashes, delicate millinery via fascinators with tulle detailing and felt hats, cocktail-ready couture gowns and cropped blazers covered in jailhouse stripes added a dose of sass to the diverse collection that featured looks as suited to the pool as sunset happy hour.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I think I saw Ryan Phillippe at the last show – would he be at Swim Week? Maybe I’m seeing things.”
COLOR WHEEL: Black, red, blue, slate, white, navy.
