Bevza NYFW S/S20 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Svitlana Bevza’s core design aesthetic: ‘90s minimalism, and the desire to create timeless investment pieces for the modern female. This season, she added braided tassels to bags and clothing, which Bevza said was in homage to the wheat fields of her home of Ukraine, also said to symbolize womanhood.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Emily Ratajkowski squeezing in a quick magazine cover shoot while glamping on an African safari.
WEAR IT TO: Officiate your best friend’s wedding in Gramercy Park, before changing into nighttime attire to helm the decks at the reception after party at Rose Bar.
FIRST READ: Classic, pared-back separates and cocktail numbers for the professional creative whose lines between work and play are perennially blurred. Bevza served up satin tank dresses and linen maxis in neutral tones, while slinky halterneck frocks, patterned slips, and embroidered bralettes were sure to appeal to the brand’s influencer devotees. Key moments included a tan linen jumpsuit with tapered wide-leg pants and a draped shoulder accent that resembled a high-end toga (but in a good way.) Elsewhere, a black cowl-neck top, tied at the neck like a choker, teamed with a matching mini skirt felt like a throwback to Linda Evangelista in the ‘90s.
BEST LOOK: A white column dress featuring a square neckline, slit pockets, and a corset-inspired bodice; and a wearable sundress featuring a babydoll silhouette and matelassé trim, capable of being dressed-up for a special occasion or teamed with sandals for a day by the beach.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Silk blouses with fringed trim, top-handle clutches in a fan silhouette, and bodycon floor-length fringed dresses with thigh-high splits.
