Blair Archibald Resort 2019 – Review
INSPIRED BY: A nod to the military, channeled via the collection’s subdued color palette, designer Blair Archibald’s The Last Knitting Mill show walked in line with the brand’s ethos of creating workwear that bucks the status quo, appealing to men and women alike.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Tilda Swinton graciously shaking the money jar in search of funding for her untitled essay film about education in progressive schools across the world at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival in the U.K.
WEAR IT TO: Catch headlining power trio Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire and The Prodigy at the Hurricane Festival in Scheeßel, Germany, one of the country’s biggest rock extravaganzas, taking a break between sets to Skype with a prospective employer via a third-round interview with HR.
FIRST READ: Screen prints taken from the factory where the label’s knitwear is produced and the use of wool in denim, seesuckers and lightweight jerseys played to the lineups experimentation with smart tailoring as against relaxed silhouettes, while oversized blazers, classic shirting and a padded silk bomber showcased the collection’s easy transition from the boardroom to street-style status.
BEST LOOK: A navy blazer with button detailing, worn over a screen-printed tee and styled with matching loose-fit drawstring trousers and an androgynous satchel purse.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Birkenstock-style sandals kept tailored looks casual, while deconstructed accents on corporate separates added a youthful vibe to the mix, as did funky updates on wardrobe staple messenger bags and classic aviators.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “This makes me want to head to New York for men’s fashion week in July – I love a good dose of man candy.”
COLOR WHEEL: French navy, khaki, burgundy, khaki, black, white, cream.
