The Blonds S/S 2018 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The use of reflective materials to create a “Platinum Paradise”, designers Phillipe and David Blond delivered a trademark theatrical performance by sticking true to the brand’s unique and fantastical style. Also referenced was the poem, Kubla Khan, by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, composed one evening after the writer experienced an opium-influenced dream after reading a work describing Xanadu, the summer palace of the Mongol ruler and Emperor of China. 
POP-CULTURE NOD: Beyonce in a pair of sky-high stilettos with her posse in front of a giant industrial fan, before dancing in front of fire-hydrant rain on the set of Crazy in Love. 
WEAR IT TO: Disco night at new East Village hotspot, Club Cumming, actor Alan Cumming’s fantasy performance-based salon on East 6th Street. 
FIRST READ: Cobalt crystal and perforated leather corseted bandeau dresses, vinyl pants, and laminated sequin leopard bustier dresses with Siam crystal detailing played to the show’s exotic Utopian aesthetic, while denim cut-offs and moto jackets kept in check with the duo’s signature overdose of colorful street cred.  
BEST LOOK: A gold laminated denim moto jacket, paired with matching pants encrusted with crystal leopard detail. 
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Nail art by CND creative lead Heather Reynosa, featuring glittery scorpion tails, rattlesnacks, tropical flowers and bird-of-paradise motifs. The show’s models were easy to spot at the after-party thanks to the oversized tangerine hibiscuses worn with wet, dewy hair looks.
