INSPIRED BY: A sense of celebration and personal thanks by designer Brandon Maxwell to supporters and the broader fashion community. Maxwell also used the show to sharpen his focus on daywear and introduce menswear to sit alongside his established suite of red-carpet options. POP-CULTURE NOD: Olivia Palermo attending a charity gala in London before cabbing to Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire to catch the tail-end of a friend’s wedding reception.
WEAR IT TO: The final edit meeting for next month’s issue of US Equestrian magazine, followed by celebratory cocktails on the Moxy Hotel’s 35th floor rooftop bar, The Fleur Room.
FIRST READ: Fresh off dressing (and then literally undressing) Lady Gaga at this year’s MET Gala, Maxwell can do no wrong. The designer proved his winning streak via a series of trademark vampy gowns, bustier tops with floor-length half skirts, ‘90s-style classic shirting, and drapey trench coats layered over the shoulders of bodycon midi dresses. For men, there were casual separates, such as a tomato sweater worn over a white shirt with the shoulders rolled up, classic suiting in preppy tones, and outwear in the form of trench coats and hoodies.
BEST LOOK: A mustard longline ponte blazer with gold-tone hardware, styled over a two-tone stretch-pique mini dress with a wrap skirt. Also key was the closing bridal look: a pintucked satin-crepe bra top, worn with an ivory ball skirt with a cummerbund waist, sure to be a favorite on the A-list wedding circuit next summer.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Acrylic hip flask clutch bags with lock detail, multi-colored stone-embellished belts in collaboration with Kenneth Jay Lane, leather tote bags with TSA-friendly dual combination lock detailing, and a crowd favorite – the statement acrylic clutch with a Brandon Maxwell label bottle of bubbly inside.
