Camilla and Marc Resort 2019 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The desire to open Australian Resort Fashion Week with a (big) bang, sibling design due Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman created a The Martian-inspired desert utopian backdrop that flirted with parallels to the country’s red center – dust storms, ostrich feathers, and all. Also behind the duo’s elaborate show was the celebration of the brand’s 15th anniversary.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Uma Thurman in the modern-day remake of ‘90’s sci-fi flick, Gattaca, with thigh-high suede boots acting as a non-political fulfillment of the administration’s pledge to “return to the moon, boots on Mars.”
WEAR IT TO: Your interview for the role of social media influencer and Under-29 Membership Manager at Western Australia’s luxury El Questro Resort and Wilderness Park, where the closest thing to getting your hands dirty is applying a filter to correct an unflattering scenic post.
FIRST READ: A modern update on Beatie Boys’ Intergalactic – minus the hazmat suits – Camilla and Marc served up an array of ladylike looks with a sophisticated, downtown edge, catering to both the career climber and the social butterfly alike. Classic, tailored suiting and Western-inspired denim separates were pitted against floral, embroidered pastel dresses and party frocks with eye-catching tassel detailing, rounding-out a versatile wardrobe that’s perfect for the warmer months.
BEST LOOK: A Studio-54-style turtle neck lurex midi dress, featuring billowy sleeves and a thigh-high split, teamed with cross-stitched ivory ankle booties. Also of note was a mustard cropped halter top, paired with a matching fitted pencil skirt, oversized cream earrings and a leather shopper.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Oversized totes that could moonlight as makeshift suitcases should you ever make the long-haul flight to outer space, and the brand’s infamous logo detailing peeking from the necklines of a sequined top and from under a boyfriend blazer.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Victoria Lee, Elsa Pataky, The Veronicas, Isabella Manfredi, Nathalie Kelley, Carmen Hamilton, Yan Yan Chan.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Apparently the runway is 120 meters long and there’s like 60 tonnes of sand – it’s like being on the moon.”
COLOR WHEEL: Lemon, tan, navy, petrol, slate, moss, white, maroon, dusty pink, cream, apricot, magenta.
