CDLM NYFW S/S19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The outdoor festival culture and the desire to rework old pieces into fashion-forward separates. Designer Chris Peters delivered his debut line for the brand, which stands for Cuevas de las Manos, the name of a cave favored by Peters in Spain.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Pharrell Williams recording his next album in his studio in Virginia Beach.
WEAR IT TO: A pitch meeting in Shoreditch with a rep from Glastonbury Festival Events as tour manager to please your case for your band’s inclusion on this year’s ticket.
FIRST READ: Elements from Peters’ other line, Creatures of the Wind – co-helmed by partner Shane Gabier – shone through in the bold debut collection, which walked the line between looks that seemed as appropriate for an evening at Firefly Festival as others a high-stakes advertising meeting in Soho. Khaki puffer jackets, upcycled leather, and deconstructed coats featuring complementary prints were followed by a classic tuxedo blazer, fringed white trousers and graphic print muscle tees.
BEST LOOK: A light blue leather jacket with a fur collar, worn over a white v-neck knit and shirt, styled with a matching scarf, black pants and white sneakers.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Silver leather boots, white boots covered in a doodle print, and slouchy messenger cross-body bags. The show’s soundtrack blared from within a small green tent in the corner of the room covered in graffiti handwriting, intended to add to the authenticity of the Burning Man vibe.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I’m loving the offsite locations this season – anything to get me away from the mess of 50 Varick.”
COLOR WHEEL: Red, camel, taupe, powder blue, navy, black, white, khaki, charcoal, silver, yellow, green.
