INSPIRED BY: The Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, and Western influences in the form of animal prints, cowboy hats, and corsetry reminiscent of riding stirrups. Designer Chiara Boni’s evidenced further intent to diversify beyond her signature bodycon jersey dresses to include daywear looks fit for the urban cowgirl.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Emily Ratajkowski making a cameo in the remake of City Slickers.
WEAR IT TO: Try your luck at the crown in the fashion sweepstakes at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the NASA Parkway in Texas.
FIRST READ: This season, Chiara Boni went all in. Think cattle ranch couture fit for the red carpet: swooshing tiered tulle skirts teamed with classic cowboy belt buckles, figure-hugging midi dresses in black and white worn with matching straw hats and riding boots, and maxi dresses in ‘60s paisley prints blowing about down the runway like tumbleweed in the desert. Fans of the label’s signature jersey bodycon dresses were sure to be please with a series of one-shouldered numbers in zebra and cow prints, while a shift mini dress with a striking white train would work for the red carpet.
BEST LOOK: A trench coat in zebra print, worn over a button-down shirt and styled over matching leggings, cowboy boots and hat, and red lips earrings.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: As with most of Chira Boni’s shows, it was all about the hats.
