Christian Siriano NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Hawaii and the idea of a chic jetsetter on an island vacation. Designer Christian Siriano paid homage to the breezy island lifestyle as show attendees braced the Manhattan heatwave.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Gina Rodriguez as Carmen Sandiego in the Netflix live-action feature about the franchise that tracked the criminal mastermind’s capers around the world.
WEAR IT TO: The Rihanna Diamond Ball hosted by Issa Rae and featuring Childish Gambino in September at Cipriani Wall Street.
FIRST READ: The show opened with a series of resort looks which featured dresses in tropical floral prints in an array of fitted silhouettes, followed by a series of jungle-inspired getups in zebra and leopard patterns. Siriano closed with his signature red-carpet creations – think dramatic off-the-shoulder figure-hugging creations, fluting skirting and cascading ruffles.
BEST LOOK: A strapless black ball gown featuring a full pleated skirt and boned bodice with neon blue tulle accents attached via a pom-pom-like effect.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: A fitted t-shirt with the phrase, “Vote for Cynthia” splashed across the front was a not-so-subtle nod to the show’s front-row electoral candidate, while pro-voting pamphlets provided additional encouragement to take part in the New York gubernatorial primary election.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Tiffany Haddish, Sarah Hyland, Judith Light, Cynthia Nixon, Daniella Brooks, Carmen Electra, Tess Holliday, Hayley Kiyoko, Leigh Lezark, Coco Rocha, Ioni James Conran, Whoopi Goldberg, Shaun Ross, Ashley Longshore.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Are you planning to vote on Thursday?”
COLOR WHEEL: Neon green, khaki, navy, pink, white, camel, brown, yellow, mustard, black, chartreuse, baby blue, tangerine, apricot.
