Christian Siriano NYFW S/S20 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The appreciation of art in all its forms, designer Christian Siriano’s latest show played out like an ode to color, with subtle nods to the Pop art era.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Lady Gaga on the red carpet on opening night ahead of her leading performance in the latest Broadway adaptation of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
WEAR IT TO: Work the room for donations as event organizer at a Cipriani Wall Street fundraiser for the arts.
FIRST READ: Siriano expanded his daywear offering in a collection that included plenty of his fan-favorite cocktail frocks in vibrant hues. Coco Rocha opened the show in a lurex mint dress with swishing layers, followed by a series of one-shoulder gowns, strapless bodycon dresses and menswear suiting covered in a blinking eye print. Little black dresses were featured with spangly beading detail, while Siriano had awards season covered by a spate of frocks with puffed sleeves, rainbow lame looks, statement gowns featuring mounds of ruffled tulle.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Multi-colored lame added a Studio 54 vibe to eveningwear, while silver fringed beading on a halter floor-length gown with matching arm sleeves felt fit for a The Great Gatsby-themed soiree.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Meghan Trainor, Alicia Silverstone, Kyle Smith, Ashley Graham, Marsal Martin, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lucy Liu, Jackie Miranne, Law Roach, Patricia Gouw, Ken Downing, Brian Beitler, Amy Beitler,
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I love the eye makeup – it’s very space-age theatrical.”
COLOR WHEEL: Mint, navy, black, white, chartreuse, brown, yellow, pink, red, gold, yellow, fuchsia, blue, silver, turquoise.
