SHOW: Christopher Esber – Resort 2017
LOCATION: One Hot Yoga, Potts Point
DATE: May. 17
START TIME: 2PM
TOP INSTA LOOK: Floor-length net tanks peppered with light blue Swarovski crystal trails and futuristic angular drop earrings hanging from one ear.
BEHIND THE SCENES: Models struggling to literally keep their cool as the stream of guests filled the studio, feeling the metallic eyeshadow begin to melt off their peepers.
OFF PROBATION: A striking deep-V black halter number, featuring a plunging back and ribbon drape detailing, topped off with ballet-style foot ribbon ties. Also key was a black-and-white faux pinafore style mini dress with ruffled hemline and taupe frilly sleeves in lyric, for those times you stumble upon a oasis during your desert hike.
GOOD BEHAVIOUR BOND: An earthy taupe sweater dress with a knotted front and white accent, also featured in all white and a navy/white combination. Ocean blue slouchy trousers were teamed with a white tank worn under a sparkling mesh overlay that trailed with ribbons to the floor. Accents such as loops, belts, knots and trailing ribbons added a layer of structure to the wearable collection.
INSPIRED BY: The desert landscape. Natural, tactile, knotted. Diversity of desert landscapes and the environment. Drawing inspiration from the harsh desert climate (not to mention the one inside the stuio), the designer focused on a natural palette and relaxed silhouettes, such as with sand-hued linens and versatile lycra, setting the stage for a new crop of fashion Bedouin come spring.
POP CULTURE-NOD: The kind of getup a hipster might wear to a 2AM roller derby in Prospect Park hosted by Talib Kweli on a balmy summer night with a six pack of IPA under one arm and a iPhone with GPS directing your posse to the secret loft location in the other.
WEAR IT TO: Your next Desert Song Healing yoga and meditation retreat in Phoenix, Arizona, because you had to ditch your LuluLemon on the center’s ‘no logos’ ban.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Do you think we’ll get some sort of discount here for having trekked out here?” – on one attendee’s generous gesture of making good on their invitation acceptance.
COLOR WHEEL: Navy, blush, white, sky blue and sandy taupe – think all corners of the desert’s plateau.
THE DOCKET: A favorite among the street style set, for his latest collection, Esber presented an array of net tanks, racy cutaway knits and deconstructed and fluid pieces sure to wind up on the tracks outside Carriageworks next season. With a focus on wearable luxury, with a play on masculine and feminine codes, Esber’s could easily provide a fresh update for Wall Street intern looking to up the sex appeal of her corporate wardrobe without alerting HR.
