INSPIRED BY: The success of their Urban Outfitter’s sellout maiden collection, indie pop duo Monte Morgan and Harvey Miller marked their MBFWA debut with a lineup peppered with 80’s and 90’s-style logos and prints on oversized hoodies, mechanic-esque jumpsuits and sporty beachwear.
POP-CULTURE NOD: The sepia-toned retro, vintage Espirit advertisements of the 80’s and 90’s – minus the spandex tights and legwarmers – combined with the spunk of MTV, back when it actually played music videos.
WEAR IT TO: Celebrate the revival of your downtown-cool status by becoming the hipster bouncing between Nevada’s Burning Man and DJ decks by the pool at the Encore Beach Club.
FIRST READ: Titled, “Champagne Affection”, the masters of infectious turn-of-the-nineties synth pop reworked vintage athletic and workman-style classics to create a lineup of hoodies, boardshorts, onesies and bomber jackets sure to be snapped-up by streetstyle aficionados, Urban Outfitter skater kids and surfer beach-bums alike.
BEST LOOK: An oversized royal blue sweater featuring the brand’s logo and a gumnut-flower print, styled with white-and-green striped shorts, a white clutch hanging from a matching leather belt, white over-the-knee boots with tassel fringing and mismatched earrings.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Branded leather bags provided a fresh take on the season’s bum-bag resurgence, while color-blocked and pattered jumpsuits straddled the line between mechanic-chic and handyman-at-work. Also was a blazer and trouser matching set featuring an Australian flora and fauna print – think frilled lizards, Banksias and Eucalyptus flowers.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “With Zara and Forever 21 closing stores here, do you think we’ll ever get an Urban Outfitters in Australia?”
