Carolines on Broadway – The Lowdown

Carolines opened more than 35 years ago as a small cabaret club in Chelsea, where owner Caroline Hirsch booked comedy legends such as Jerry Seinfeld, Tim Allen and Billy Crystal. Now, it holds court on Broadway in the heart of bustling Times Square. Designed by Haigha Architects, the downstairs 300-seat venue books a mix of A-list stars and up-and-coming comics, and consider visiting as an alternative to a pricey ticket to a Broadway show. Unlike the Comedy Cellar downtown, however, the hilarity level of performers can sometimes be hit-or-miss, so be sure to do your research on the scheduled performers beforehand. Carolines also produces the annual New York Comedy Festival in association with TBS; a seven-day gala featuring more than 200 comedians across over 100 shows at venues throughout the city. Accessible ticket prices means it’s an affordable way to checkout iconic venues such as The Beacon Theater and Carnegie Hall.
