Concept Korea S/S 2018 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Staged by the Korea Creative Content Agency, the organization spotlights Soul’s top emerging designers, this season Lie by Chung Chung Lee and Greedilous by Younhee Park.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Cher’s Clueless wardrobe if she red-pilled and ended up as Neo’s sidekick in The Matrix.
WEAR IT TO: See François K. & Scuba headline a set at monthly dance party Deep Space at Williamsburg’s techno temple, Output.
FIRST READ: Titled, “Botanic Exotica,” Park’s show was inspired by the fantasy jungle in James Cameron’s movie Avatar. The designer offered up a series of floral suits, denim jackets and floaty trenches, while oversized hoodies and frilly dresses with geometric prints and mesh detailing channeled a streetwear vibe. Wearing prom-style sashes bearing the show’s title, Lee’s models sported a mashup of silk, ladylike looks and striped, menswear-inspired sweats and deconstructed asymmetrical skirts. Titled, “Perfect Imperfection: Perfectly Imperfect”, Lee’s show referenced the evolution of femininity and the maturation of a flower.
BEST LOOK: From Park, a deconstructed white blazer with arm-hole slits, frill detailing and a whispy feather trim, worn with oversized beaded earrings, a fuchsia eyelid and Aztec-inspired stacked heels. From Lee, a white-and-lilac sweater with a squiggle print and apricot accents, worn with a purple skirt with striped paneling and color-blocked slides.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Maye Musk, the mother of Elon Musk, opened and closed the show.
