Creatures of the Wind NYFW S/S20 – Review
INSPIRED BY: A sharpened focus on sustainability and the idea of reworking clashing materials to create lived-in looks with an urban aesthetic. Creatures of the Wind design team Chris Peters and Shane Gabier showcased the brand’s latest collection in a combined show at the Masonic Hall in Chelsea alongside Section 8, Vaquera, and CDLM (also founded by Peters).
POP-CULTURE NOD: Jared Leto playing a hipster artist scouting for gallery spaces in Bushwick.
WEAR IT TO: Helm a panel discussion on the future of eco-fashion alongside fellow downtown designers at Ludlow House.
FIRST READ: Deconstructed faded tees and slouchy knits were paired alongside bodycon midi dresses in a floral print – one look was covered with an apricot tulle wrap – while statment tops with trailing arm detail added an evening element to the mix. Think chilled L.A. vibes swirled with an dose of Shoreditch’s edgy, punk vibe.
BEST LOOK: A preppy striped rugby sweater dress with leather front pocket detail, styled with an oversized hobo bag fashioned from crocodile-embossed leather and white sneakers.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Structured sleeveless blazers adding a polished look to swishing slip dresses, and oversized shoulder bags with black-and-white sketch prints on the side.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Did you know that this venue is the headquarters of the Grand Lodge of Freemasons of New York?”
COLOR WHEEL: Navy, orange, red, blue, black, white, slate, green, olive, apricot, pink, camel, brown.
