Cynthia Rowley NYFW F/W19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The decision to return to the runway-show format after offloading her West Village workshop on Morton Street for $16 million earlier this year. In fashion speak, the 6,000-square-foot townhouse was the infamous host of Rowley’s elaborate and inventive packed-out presentations, which were always a surprise treat of fashion week.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Amanda Seyfried enjoying a week off the red carpet with her family at her friend’s luxury estate in the Hamptons.
WEAR IT TO: Don a flower crown and embrace the wild foliage and farm-to-table organic fare at a black tie garden party-themed wedding in Newport.
FIRST READ: Rowley showcased her penchant for wetsuits by staging a pool party inside Chelsea’s London Terrace Towers, featuring models splashing about while showcasing her latest offering for swim. The runway element consisted of the brand’s signature frilly dresses, layered smocks, silk separates in a floral print, and chunky snits in rich jewel tones. The vibe was equal parts “Woodstock festival’ and “Dynasty cocktail hour.”
BEST LOOK: An emerald tie-up floor-length frock featuring voluminous layers and lace detail, styled over purple silk trousers. Also key was a black silk mini dress with a playful fruit print, featuring a sheer blue tulle ballerina skirt.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: A mashup of references via the use of clashing materials: think 70’s-inspired sequin pants, 80’s-style ostrich skirts, and retro color-blocked wrap dresses.
