Cynthia Rowley NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Designer Cynthia Rowley’s summer hallmarks – surfing in Montauk and embracing the beachy, athletic lifestyle. Always the most innovative presentation of fashion week, this season, Rowley employed a diverse array of female roller skaters to showcase her latest collection. Firstly, via a private viewing in her studio at 16 Morton Street, followed by a derby on the asphalt outside.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Girls’ Zosia Mamet auditioning for the lead in a remake of 1980-Olivia Newton John hit, Xanadu.
WEAR IT TO: Watch Lupe Fiasco at The Surf Lodge in the Hamptons after a relentless day in the surf, where you’ll rub shoulders with the Brinkley’s and the Gerbers, and enough Real Housewives to fulfill your celebrity-crush quota for the year.
FIRST READ: Rowley knows her customer well, evidenced by her latest lineup of frilly, floral dresses, graphic-tech swimwear, sequin bombers, and polka dot Mad Men-inspired frocks. New to the mix this season were slinky silk slips and tie-dyed button-ups, which added a grungy 90’s vibe to the colletion.
BEST LOOK: A safari-esque shirt covered in a Banksia floral print, styled with matching shorts, mustard pumps and layered rose-gold jewelry.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Roller skaters shutting down Morton Street, polka dot and gingham prints, paisley rash-vest swimsuits.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “It was so funny last season when a girl was posing in the middle of the street and three rats ran under her skirt and she didn’t even notice.”
COLOR WHEEL: Kelly green, navy, lavender, blue, black, pink, orange, white, steel, marigold, red, aqua, brown, neon yellow, taupe, chartreuse.
