INSPIRED BY: Doctor Seuss’ Oh, the Places You’ll Go!. Designer Cynthia Rowley featured illustrations from the classic children’s tome on the runway, which traversed a laneway off Tribeca’s Harrison Street. The book’s message flowed through to Rowley’s plans post-NYFW: she’s set to present the collection at multiple pit stops around the world.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Emma Roberts’ off-duty looks while starring as Daphne in the silver screen remake of Scooby-Doo.
WEAR IT TO: Up your street style cred while catching an outdoor fashion show poolside at Icebergs in Bondi Beach, then lounge at the Sydney institution for cocktails at sunset.
FIRST READ: Rowley showcased her talent for finding unique ways to breathe life into the fashion week format through her outdoor show, which create buzz among attendees and passersby alike. Fresh back in the city after spending summer in Montauk, the designer’s beachy lifestyle shone through in her latest collection: think color-blocked wetsuits, frilly smock dresses covered in a 70’s-style pastel swirl pattern, silk floor-length cocktail gowns with plunging necklines, and floaty maxi dresses in white and boho prints. Elevating things from day to night was a silver sequin suit ensemble, which shimmered in a mermaid effect, and an off-the-shoulder tiered gown featuring a psychedelic paisley motif.
BEST LOOK: A pair of black silk overalls with slouchy pockets, teamed with oversized dark shades and a striped sunhat.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Dome straw hats, worn throughout, sleeveless blazers cinched at the waist with a kimono-style tie, and Rowley’s signature sweaters and frocks featuring abstract floral prints. And no Cynthia Rowley show would be complete without a couple of surfboards – even in the concrete jungle of Manhattan.
