Imagine if the leading ladies of Charlie’s Angels decided to hang up their boots and head back to school and that just about sums up the vibe of Cynthia Rowley’s spring/summer 2015 offering. Well, half of it.
The other half would be the type of attire the said trio might don while chasing boys skipping gym class.
This season, the designer split her ready-to-wear and active wear looks in two – both with a distinct mod squad, ladylike vibe.
In the former category, pretty ‘60s florals in lilac and red featured on trapeze dresses, miniskirts and trousers, while a vampy deep V-neck dress in black with applique flowers in blue and white took the look from day to night.
A standout look was a fire engine red floral dress in jumbo lace with cheeky cutouts, while lace-up knee-high gladiator sandals gave the collection a romantic Grecian feel.
Another crowd pleaser was a sleeveless knee-length swinging dress with an abstract pattern in camel and brown that was given a ‘Penelope Cruz in Blow’ ounce of sex appeal with an oversized heart-shaped necklace.
For her sporty offering, Rowley ensured you’ll have enough room to ditch your homework for a spot of after-school shopping with a cute black and white backpack, while a metallic bike helmet will protect you from a Seamless delivery rider as you pedal home on your hipster Citi bike.
Also on offer were a pair of black leggings with ‘Cynthia Rowley’ – and some free publicity – scrolled up the side in metallic gold. The designer also had Pilates class covered with a pair of white scalloped mini shorts and a pair of black drawstring shorts with gold print on the side.
While the crowded Chelsea gallery had the presentation’s attendees lusting for an air conditioner, the pretty, swinging sixties collection had all wishing they had their own ‘I Dream of Genie’ companion up their sleeves that could blink the lineup directly into our closets for spring.
